Fulda Foundation, a non-profit that started in 2012 was designed to find causes that friends and family could support. Within the last two years, we wanted to find a local organization that we could support in Denver and found the Jewish War Veterans of America Post #344. Ben initially saw the group as part of the local Jewish community in a pamphlet from our local Jewish Federation. He looked up when they conducted meetings and about a dozen people attended the meeting.
Ben joined the group shortly after at the ripe old age of 35 years old and within one year they had him fill a leadership position. What Ben received from the group was a common bond of selfless service and pride for the US that he felt just doesn’t resonant with the younger Jewish generation in the same way. What he also discovered is that these men and women have so much knowledge and their stories are amazing. We are losing time as a community in capturing these stories and ensuring they are saved for future generations to learn. Therefore, we think this is not a lost cause and wanted to combine generations in the process to bond and record stories from both sides, young and old.
- Provide awareness and education of the Jewish veteran community and break down common misconceptions of veterans in general.
- Build a cohesive sustainment plan to bring the best experiences and bonding moments possible to the community.
- Focus on common philanthropy shortcomings in general concerning the Millennial donor and create a common voice on why this initiative is different from other programs in the past.
The diagram above explains how we are going about this endeavor. The volunteers that are selected will meet with the Jewish War Veteran once a month at a location of their choice. Afterward, the two volunteers and the Veteran have met they both write about the experience and send it to the Co-Chairs within the week. After a quick edit of pictures and writeups, the Co-Chairs will send the finished products to the partner organizations to be able to distribute through their social media networks.
Ideally, we will try to meet a total of six in six months and then come together as a group to discuss the project. Thanks again for thinking about this project, we know your time is valuable and are stoked to be doing this in Denver.
